We all know how much powers the citizens has in choosing those that lead them politically in our democratic government. This is why we have this short post highlighting some of the reasons why you should adopt digital marketing for your political campaigns and take it seriously.

  1. The Internet is a powerful tool for communication and political action. The use of social media for election campaign as increased as political parties are reaching voters through the internet.
  2. Social media sites and tools matter for your political campaign.  As their usage becomes more widespread among the public at large, more and more voters will use these sites to become engaged with the political process.
  3. It’s no secret that one of the cornerstone of President Buhari's of Nigeria and Barack Obama’s of the United States of America presidential election victories was their campaign’s adept use of social media and internet technologies. The campaign team leveraged the power of mainstream social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube & Instagram and integrating them to a campaign website (my.barackobama.com), and reinforced them with extensive testing and market research tools.
  4. Your political rivals are already campaigning on the internet, or will do soon.
  5. Offline (traditional) campaign are particularly too difficult to measure. Internet campaign platform presents a unique two-way communication line for instant feedbacks from potential voters.
  6. More important than getting supporters using the Internet, potential voters are listening to your prospects and are already communicating directly and personal with your opponents.

CEO Of SHELL for a day http://gavaar.com/item/71-ceo-of-shell-for-a-day http://gavaar.com/item/71-ceo-of-shell-for-a-day CEO for a Day

Robbrecht van Amerongen, the manager of business innovation in a technology firm changed his Job description to 'CEO, shell' for 48 hours and the following things happened:

He received almost 400 likes and 80 customized comments.

  • He got more than 500 emails with a personal message.
  • 10 of his closest co-workers called within 2 hours.
  • He got almost 25 text messages.
  • He spontaneously received 10 CV’s and requests for a job at my new company.
  • 2 offshore companies sent him an email to get an appointment as soon as possible.

This experiment only shows how people trust information they see on social media, although trust levels differs from platform to platform. For example, LinkedIn is a social network where everyone expects others to put up correct personal information and not play-around with information. An account on twitter can have a username: @DatDynamicChick, which the owner will use to tweet all sorts of facts and lies to keep her followers entertained or informed. However, the same individual will update her LinkedIn profile with the most current and correct information. This is what I personally call 'the mode of conduct in a social network'.

On Facebook, we tend to be partly serious and partly humorous.  In 2011, I changed my birthday to April 1st, just to pull a fast April fool joke on my friends on Facebook. I got mixed reactions from my friends on the social network - some were wishing me a happy birthday through my wall, inbox, a phone call or SMS, while others, especially family members and closed friends knew I was up to no good. I also got some 'Lol'. I later clarified it wasn't my birthday and used the opportunity to tell friends to go out and vote, because it was during a national election.

According to Robbrecht van Amerongen, this is what he learned from His research on LinkedIn:

"There is a huge difference in trust on the accuracy of the content between different social networks. Even though the validation of new content is done with the same accuracy, the LinkedIn network offers a higher implicit trust in the validity of the content compared to other networks.

Most people trust what they read on LinkedIn. Even though it is in conflict with their gut feeling; "when it is on LinkedIn, it must be true.""

This  are our final take:

1. Be critical about what you read on social networks, if you need those information to make important decisions.

2. Companies should do background check on peoples profile on LinkedIn before employing them based on their posted qualifications and experience.

3. Businesses and individuals should know the conduct on each social channel and flow along. Don't be too serious where a little bit of humour is expected and accepted, & don't be too humorous when you need to get serious.

Using Videos for Digital Marketing http://gavaar.com/item/69-using-videos-for-digital-marketing http://gavaar.com/item/69-using-videos-for-digital-marketing Digital Video Marketing In Nigeria

Since a picture can tell more than a thousand words, imagine what a video can tell, probably more than 10,000 words? A video uses the combination of audible words and moving pictures to tell your brand's story.

Data from recent research shows that a lot of the young generation consume more video contents on the internet than on Television. As a result many brands are turning to videos to create educating, entertaining and creative contents. You don't need a massive Television budget to get your video campaigns in the faces of your prospects; and your prospects can also be part of your vehicle to make your videos go viral. Most of the digital and social platforms gives you an easy way to share your video contents and they are absolutely free to use. Popular platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter,  Instagram, and SnapChat; a platform that is buzzing among teens and youth.

As seen below, Volvo Trucks is a great example of a business that chose not to play it safe in favor of an out-of-the-box success.

Volvo Trucks bypassed the challenges most B2B companies face by creating the most successful B2B ad campaigns we’ve ever seen, and all it took was a little muscle from Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Volvo Trucks is a subsidiary of AB Volvo and the second-largest heavy-duty truck company in the world.  About two years ago, they premiered “The Epic Split” on the company’s YouTube page.  The one-minute-and sixteen-second clip has 83 million views on YouTube.

Gavaar is a media and communication company. Video production for brands  is a major part of our services. We will help conceptualise, develop and market your videos to achieve your set marketing goals and objectives.

Owned, Earned and Paid Digital Media http://gavaar.com/item/66-owned-earned-and-paid-digital-media http://gavaar.com/item/66-owned-earned-and-paid-digital-media Owned, Earned and Paid Digital Media

The digital world is driven by technological tools, data and people. There are various digital assets we need to invest in; directly or indirectly to have an edge in today's competitive world. All your digital marketing activities takes place on various platforms and you have different measure of control over each. There are 3 basic digital assets:

Owned Media are digital platforms you have control over. There are fully-owned media and partially-owned media. Your website is an example of a fully owned media, while your various social media accounts are examples of partially-owned media.

Paid Media are basically paid advertising or media that are acquired by direct or indirect purchase. Some people argue that paid media is dead, but that's quite untrue, as there is no other media that can give instant results and scale that paid media gives.

Earned media are driven by your audience, and it is generally called word-of-mouth advertising.  You need to learn how to listen and respond to both the good (positive organic) and bad (spurned), as well as consider when to try and stimulate earned media through word-of-mouth marketing.

Below is a table explaining more features of each media:

-Clutter

-Declining response rates

-Poor Credibility

Earned Media

When customers become a channel

-Word-Of-Mouth

-Viral

-Most Credible

-Key Role in most sales

-Transparent and lives on

Love is In the Air, So I Hold My Breathe http://gavaar.com/item/59-love-is-in-the-air-so-i-hold-my-breathe http://gavaar.com/item/59-love-is-in-the-air-so-i-hold-my-breathe Digital Marketing in Nigeria Valentine

All over the world, February 14th - Valentine day, as it is popularly called, is marked as a day to celebrate love. A lot of people go with the flow of the celebration while others based on some personal reasons or the other don't really buy into the idea of the whole fuzz. Some believe celebrating love should be a consistent part of the fabric of our lives and should not be an event for just a day, others are just going through moments of blocking out love, probably because they are single, or going through some emotional heartbreak. These set of people get mad when they see others marking the day.

Looking at this scenario, we would understand why marketing  and getting returns could turn out difficult in some circumstances.

The 'air' is filled with Advertising. Everyone is marketing to the same people. The same set of people are constantly bombarded with adverts and brand messages, to the extent that they have consciously and or subconsciously blocked out their exposure or consumption of these adverts every day.

The digital world is overrun with advertising and it can seem almost impossible to stand above the parapet. Even when you do manage to stand out from the crowd, how are you going to ensure that you’ll make that sale, and make sure that they come back to you?

How do you make people that are no longer interested in love find love again?

Well, since today is love day, we are not going to be giving any hint or a solution to these issues, show some love by giving us that marketing contract and we will put in our marketing super-powers to make all your target personas fall in love with your brand over and over again.

Waiting to hear from you.

Single But Not Searching http://gavaar.com/item/57-single-but-not-searching http://gavaar.com/item/57-single-but-not-searching digital marketing nigeria single but not searching

Love is one of the most profound emotions known to human beings. There are many kinds of love, but most people seek its expression in a romantic relationship with a compatible partner. For some, romantic relationships are the most meaningful element in their lives, providing a source of deep fulfillment. We have different relationship status, the common ones are single, married, divorced, in a relationship, engaged etc .. ..  There are the not so common ones like, it's complicated, confused, but my focus is on the category of people that describe their relationship status as 'single but not searching'. This status mean different things to different people. These people need to be in a relationship, but they make others believe being in one is not their priority.

Just like in real life relationships, some people, businesses and organisations need some services or products but they won't acknowledge they need them.  Have you ever met someone with body odour and you try to market the use of perfume to them, but they tell you they don't like artificial smell. Some businesses are like this, their whole business is not sailing the way it is supposed to sail because they refuse to adopt a needed system or a switch from old ways to new methods. From my experience in the field of digital marketing a lot companies will not bulge to your proposals or recommendations even when it is obvious it's what they need.

Some companies want to start a new marketing drive when their website is not built or ready for it, some are still stuck with brick and mortar ways of marketing that they refuse to move, while some will be the one advising you on exactly what they need, the channels they need to employ for marketing and forgot you are the expert. Another category are those that already tried something similar to what you are proposing but it failed, based on one ill reason or the other which they will not acknowledge.

What can we do as marketers or business development managers to convince these people? How do we force a donkey that is not thirsty to drink from a lake? The answer to this is... , well, there is really no single out of the box answer than to hope sometime someday soon, they change their mind and adopt what we are proposing. However, let's be wise while dealing with people that will give us a marketing or business development jobs and force their methods on us and expect us to take responsibility for the outcome; we are actually going take responsibilities for it, especially if it's not successful.

If you are reading this and you are one of the people with the relationship status - 'single but not searching', this article is meant for you. Let's try and relax our systems and beliefs, let's trust other methods that will guarantee business growth. Let's adopt new channels, try new strategies, tread on new terrains and most importantly start a new relationship and connection that might lead to a more fulfilled business life.

So many guys to choose from, I get confused http://gavaar.com/item/55-so-many-guys-to-choose-from-i-get-confused http://gavaar.com/item/55-so-many-guys-to-choose-from-i-get-confused Digital Marketing in Nigeria

This is the story of a lady, a single lady who is finding it difficult to choose someone to marry. She could be tagged as a lady that is in high demand, because there are a lot of guys proposing to take the path of marriage with her. However, she is challenge with the right choice of guy to choose. The challenge also entails the criteria for her final choice and how to build the relationship to the desired destination. This lady like so many of us does not want to get the choice of who to marry wrong, because there are so many fakes out there, and even salt looks like sugar from a distance.

Let us do a swap, let's replace the lady in the illustration above with your business and represent the various marketing options for your business as the choices available for the right partner. The world of digital marketing is a world where there are limitless methods, tools and channels that can be used to achieve set marketing goals. We are faced with the hard choice of knowing the right mix of things to make our marketing efforts a success. What makes company 'A' succeed digitally probably won't work for company 'B'. The worst situation is when we are on a wrong path, using the wrong combinations of options and we actually believe we are doing the right things.

There are few things that we could highlight that your brand might have a hard time defining properly. Below are some key areas that might be a challenge:

  • Strategy is everything. Once the strategy is wrong the whole marketing drive will crash before ever taking off. The strategy you choose will determine all the options you will take in all the other factors listed below. That's why a good strategy is everything.
  • Choosing the right digital channels to employ. There are different factors that determines the digital channels to employ for a digital drive. Some of these factors include:- the marketing goals and objectives, the target audience, the timeline, the budget, etc. While some of these digital channels include creating a website, creating a software application, running different social media accounts on different social platforms, utilising email marketing, running paid adverts, mobile marketing, search engine optimisation etc.
  • Creating quality and relevant contents for set marketing goals
  • There is the popular phrase - Content is king. Content is everything, there is engagement you want to achieve with your target community that you won't have to put in the form of content. Content could be in the form of written words (text), pictures, audios or videos. Content marketing is a whole world in the world of digital marketing. Most brands and businesses do content marketing wrongly. They don't understand the psychology of their target audiences and how they could create contents to attract them to become advocates for  their brand, but instead, they push out contents that pushes people away from interacting with their brand and they getting better at doing just that. People are not looking to be sold to, they are not looking for products or services - they are looking to gain/learn. If people in your niche consistently believe they are learning/gaining from you, they will eventually look up to you as an authority, trust you and value your business enough to invest money in your products and services.
  • Growing and engaging the right target audience. The goal with digital marketing is to grow a lalevant to your niche and industry, and get this audience's attention. This involves lots of time socializing, networking and communicating with people across all of the social media platforms, and making 1-on-1 connections with many people.
  • Generating new leads. Prospects next-to-never make a purchase the first time they interact with a brand online. We need an opportunity to communicate with them a second time (usually, more like 7 times). To do this, you need to capture some sort of contact information from them so that you can engage in a relationship with them.
  • Converting leads to customers. This is where we ‘close the deal’ and turn a prospect into a customer. Businesses  requires a great deal of credibility, trust and respect and you need to create strategies to ensure this.

In another context, this write up highlights the activities needed for a successful digital marketing effort.

In conclusion, Nigeria and Africa as a continent is emerging digitally and you need to make sure your brand and company is not left behind.
